"Rainbow"

"Rainbow"

I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. –Genesis 9:13

Yesterday, Kadine and I woke early. She made the bed, I made the coffee, and we drove to get a glimpse of sunrise. Instead of the sun, we were greeted by light rain and the most magnificent rainbow that stretched over the glasslike water on the Bay. We stood in the rain and stared in awe at God's beautiful creation. The photos I snapped didn't do the colors justice.

In Genesis 9 the rainbow represents a sign of God’s covenant to Noah after he and his family went through the traumatic event of the flood. “This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all successive generations; I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. And it shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud, and I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh.”

The very sight of the rainbow filled me with a deep need to pause and breathe -- to inhale hope for our world and its people. We've all had some cloudy days. I hope you will pause and remember the personal rainbows God has placed in your clouds. What did God deliver you from lately, and who did He use to be a rainbow in your cloud? Or better yet, how can you be a rainbow in some else's cloud?

Let Us Pray!

God of love, God of grace, God of compassion. We, your children, continue to be in awe of your love and faithfulness towards us. Thank you for the gift of the rainbow and the covenant it represents. When we are going through the storms in our life, help us to remember that You have already promised that we will get through them. May we also remember your covenant love shown to us through your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Blessings,
