Laura considers herself a true Georgia Peach, raised in Gainesville, Georgia, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  She majored in Economics and received a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia.  After a career in mortgage banking, she answered a call to ministry and received her Masters of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky.

She began her ministry in Lilburn, Georgia, at Mountain Park UMC as the Congregational Care Minister.  She spent 12 years as Associate Pastor of Mt. Zion UMC in Marietta, Georgia.

Ordained as an Elder in the North Georgia Conference, she was active at both the District and Conference Level of the church, serving 8 years on the Council on Finance and Administration, chairing the District Training Event for a number of years and serving on the District Committee on Ordained Ministry.

She is married to Paul Parker, who is with CM Associates, a consulting firm that does program management specializing in healthcare.  They have two adult sons, Tyler and Andrew.

The Parkers relocated to Fairhope in 2009.  Now under appointment by the Alabama West Florida Conference, Laura is pursuing transfer of her credentials to this conference.

On her days off, you can find Laura in the Summit Street Community Garden growing heirloom tomatoes or perfecting a new recipe in her kitchen on Fels Avenue or reading the next selection for book club.
